Churros with Chocolate: Turn Spanish For Breakfast!
No matter how long you live in Spain, sooner or later you will find out how the Spaniards brighten up their mornings – churros! This absolutely delicious fried snack so adored in Spain has become so popular that it has already exceeded the boundaries of the country. Churros are now made all over the world, uniting people for breakfast. The combination of a fried dough with liquid chocolate for example, cannot leave you indifferent especially if you love charging your morning with something sweet and strong.
By the dough texture and flavor churros could resemble donuts – fried and crunchy. The surface of a churro is ridged because of a churrera, a syringe-like tool with a star-shaped nozzle. Churros are generally prismatic, but also may be straight, curled or spirally twisted.
There are various types and names of churros depending on the region where they are made: for example in Madrid, they like it super crunchy and teardrop-shaped; in Seville they call them “calientes” or “calentitos de rueda” which refers to a thicker variant fried in the spiral form and then cut into smaller pieces. Straight churros are made in Cuba, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Chile and Mexico.
The origin of churros remains theoretical: some people say it was brought to Europe from China (!) by the Portuguese, the others say they were invented by the Spanish shepherds as a quick and easy snack which was easily made in the mountains where they spent most of the time.
Whether it’s true or not, one thing remains clear: churros are extremely delicious and adored not only by the Spaniards or the Portuguese, but by the whole world. Sprinkled with sugar or sugar powder, cinnamon, dipped in chocolate, dulce de leche or coffee with milk – either way is great to enjoy churros for breakfast, what you have to do is to choose yours and make your life a little bit sweeter.
