LIVING ON COSTA DEL SOL

Cost of living on Costa del Sol

Undoubtedly, one of the strongest advantages of Spain is its cost of living – generally, one of the lowest in Europe, even if you choose to live in big cities! Of course, it depends on where and how you are going to live. If you are a couple, you can easily live on €22,000 to €25,000 a year and still eat out frequently if you leave aside loans and rental payments. A meal for two with wine or beer can cost as little as €30, especially if you know affordable places. However, specific grocery bills can be difficult to calculate but €100 per couple per week can be sufficient. If you don’t like to eat out regularly, your in-house grocery budget will most probably be much lower.

Thanks to a sunny warm climate, the variety of fruits and vegetables is quite inexpensive on Costa del Sol. During the seasons (and Spain has a long growing season) many rudimentary food items cost below €1 per kilo. Housing is usually the largest expense in any budget but it doesn’t have to break your bank so you would be able to afford on Costa del Sol. In most small to mid-sized cities, you can find comfortable one-bedroom apartments starting in the €500 a month. And it’s still likely to find apartments like these for sale for a budget less than €150,000.

A Superb Healthcare System

Spain's health care system is ranked 7th best in the world by the World Health Organization. It sustains a high-quality system of hospitals and medical centers throughout the entire country. Theoretically, you are never more than 15 minutes away from one of the centers or hospitals when you’re in Spain. The Spanish constitution itself entails the state to provide medical care, so the public system is strong. Spain’s medical network corresponds to a diversity of needs, counting home visits, surgeries, and health checks. Also, life expectancy in Spain is one of the highest in the world so you are likely to live more if you decide to move to Spain.

Spain’s largest private health-insurance company called “Sanitas” provide healthcare insurance on a rate of €110 per month per person for a healthy person in the early 60s. For reference, the monthly rate for a healthy 55-year-old is €50. The plan includes complete healthcare plus dental, with a small co-pay.

Public Transportation

Public transportation on Costa del Sol varieties from modern metros to well-linked speed rails between main Spanish cities, and it’s one of the best in Europe. In addition, using public transport as an alternative to driving yourself can help reduce the cost of getting around the country. Bus and railway networks get you around the town or even around the country if needed. In most cities, you can buy a monthly transport pass or a 10-ride ticket for buses and metros. And from age 65 and proceeding, the pensioner tariffs start, which cut long-distance travel costs significantly.

Are you impressed?

All of the above sounds promising, right? Of course, this is a very significant, but far from complete list of all the benefits of living on the Costa del Sol. Living on this coast, you can certainly not only appreciate the standard of living and significantly reduce your expenses, but also find many additional optimal solutions to improve your stay here.  And since it is best to develop such strategies, being well-oriented on the spot, come and see for yourself all the advantages and conveniences of life here on the Costa del Sol!

Meanwhile, we will tell you about other interesting features of such a sunny and multifaceted Spain.
